I took many trips with buddy Jeff Mills on Eagle Lake. This was the best one. Jeff, my cousin Jimmy Norman MacDonald, and I were taking the boat to Mainadieu to leave it overnight for a quicker run to the yacht club poker run the next day. As we started out of Louisbourg harbour, we were amused by a single pilot whale that was chasing a school of mackerel around the Harbour. The fog was beginning to thicken, and just as we were getting out of the harbour near the lighthouse, we met a pod of about 60 pilot whales. We chugged slowly through them. The experience of being so close to these giants as they bobbed up and down around us in the quiet of the fog was magic.
